This was Max last night at 2am. He'd been up since midnight, coughing his wee head off, and came to me asking for "me-i-hin" (medicine). We stayed up together till around 5am, at which point he fell asleep on the sofa, and I promptly fell asleep myself. Next thing I knew it was almost 10am. Zack hadn't slept well (Max gets all shouty when he's happy, which he still has been despite feeling unwell. A good sign!).
So today we've taken a mental health day. Max is doing much better and I think that us being up all night and me being able to give him his inhalers and medicines throughout has really helped with that. Zack is in the doghouse at the moment as his parent's evening was last night and, well... the phrase "he has so much potential, but" was used. His behaviour, while not mean or rude, is very disruptive and unfocused - to the point he's been having to sit at the desk by his teacher to ensure he does his work. On the upside though, all his school work is going well and he seems to be in the top sets for everything, so at least his education isn't suffering?
God that's a thought actually... what if his teacher thinks he's not in because I've battered him or something? Oh dear! Erm. Yeah, no. I would never do that (though oh my good god if there was ever a time I was tempted, it was last night!!). So going to take a couple photos of him reading later to ensure some evidence, just in case... *cough* ;)
I don't know how I did the sleepless nights like last night on a daily basis. I really don't know.
What I do know, though, is that I'm really glad they're over, and that these days a night of no sleep is only caused by a cold or some such illness. You know, normal things.
It's really rather lovely to just be dealing with regular parenting problems these days, instead of how it used to be!
