Respect Starts With You

You know something I've come to realise?

To respect anyone else, you really have to respect yourself first.

If you don't take care of you, body and soul, that will reflect in how others see you.

I mean ok, I enjoy my food rather too much, but other than that I take good care of myself.

For example... how can you expect your child to do as you say, if you don't do the same?

So many of us find it that much easier to say to our little ones "don't do that, it's bad for you" (talking with your mouth full, running with a pencil in their hand etc), and yet we do the same thing! (Well, I do anyway. Maybe I'm just a heathen with the talking through food thing though!)

Here's the thing though, if you want your little one to be polite, you have to *show* them how to do it.

We're our children's role models, their first teachers in life!

Shouting at them, saying things about other people in front of them that shouldn't be said at all, never mind in ear shot, telling them not to push while shoving them in the door after a long day... why on earth should they respect you, or anyone else for that matter, if you don't show them how?

I'm not saying I'm the perfect mum. Quite frankly I've done all these things at one time or another (along with many others!), but I've learned from my mistakes, and I'll no doubt continue to learn through more mistakes throughout my life!

It's just one of these things though isn't it?

Speak to someone the way you wish to be spoken to.

Don't ever think less of anyone regardless of how they look or where they're from.

SHOW them how to be, let them see you make mistakes and learn from them.!

Let them know that nobody is right all the time, and that's ok.!

And always apologise to your babies/kids/teenagers if you've done something wrong!
