People often say to me "You're so positive! I don't know how you do it!".

And it's true.

I'm a glass half full person. Always have been, more or less.

Well, since I've been a grown up at least.

That's not to say I've had an easy or happy life.

Many things have gone wrong, and will go wrong in the future.

The thing is though, even when something does go wrong, I always look for the silver lining.

I seem to just do it without thinking!

I mean, yeah, Max is on the autistic spectrum, but he is on the mild end, and for that I'm thankful.

He's a happy cheeky lil chappy, and is learning so much every day.

How can I not focus on how wonderful he is?

Or when Zack is being a wee sod and keeping Max up at night?

You know, it's only because he thinks he's helping, and wants to cheer up his little brother, and make his mummy happy.

How can I possibly just think of him as being a naughty child?

No way!

Some people think my life must be so hard as I'm single. "I couldn't do it" they say.

Well, yes. There are times when it is tricky. Particularly with all this snow about, it would certainly help to have someone else around to help with watching the kids so one of us could go out and get the shopping and such.

On the other hand, I'm so much happier on my own, that I'd much rather rely on the wonderful friends and family I have to help out than be with someone and be unhappy!

I remember, before I went on anti depressants all those years ago, nothing could pull me out of it but Zack.

His happy little giggle, his cuddles, he made me realise just how lucky I was. Just how lucky I still am, but doubly so now Max is around.

Sometimes it's really hard to focus on the positives that are already in your life. Especially when there are so many things that are out of your control. Whether it's debts, a divorce, or a diagnosis of something you never expected to deal with.

Those are the times when I dig deep and focus on my positives. On how lucky I am compared to some people. Compared to a lot of people.

So here's an idea for you. Next time you're feeling down, and that everything is getting on top of you, just start thinking about the good things in your life.

I guarantee you'll have a longer list than you thought you would!
