So much to do, not enough time

by Marylin on October 14, 2009

I am getting overloaded. It’s not that I don’t have the time to do things. I often find myself sitting at the computer feeling bored when there are plenty of things I *could* be doing. Lets just face it – I’m lazy.

I have a Clickin’ Moms subscription but I don’t spend much time on it at all. A waste of money, but I do want to join in the fun, I just don’t really know where to start!

I have recently joined the new Problogger.com forums, and I want to participate, but again – I don’t know where to start!

I’m enjoying having two blogs to run, and there is so much I want to do with them, but… yet again… I don’t know where to start!

There seems to be a theme going on here, doesn’t there?

And that doesn’t even touch on the act of taking photos and learning how to use my camera properly, or wanting to spend more time playing WoW and having some fun with my friends.

PLUS I want to start learning to cook better and more nutritious meals than I can at the moment.

All that is on top of the whole being a single-mum-of-two thing.

Damn I really wish I was one of those Born Organized people… it would make life so much easier!

I know where you are coming from, but in a more business sense than personal sense?

I have this great chart thing that my boyfriend devised. You basically write all of your different tasks for the week onto seperate post-it notes, bits of paper etc then put them on a corkboard. You split the corkboard up into 3 parts – To Do, Doing and Done. You give each task a set amount of time to do, such as 1/4 day, 1/2 day, 1 day, 2 days etc, a rough guess at how long you think it will take. Every day, you move 1 days worth of stuff into the “Doing” section, then when you have done it, move it to “Done”! I know it sounds really easy but I couldn’t believe the difference it made to my organisation levels.

If something takes longer than a day or week, say “Learn to cook”, split that task up into things like “try a new recipie” or “buy a new cook-book” etc.

Over the last few days, i’ve been in a bit of a slump, and guess why – my corkboard hadn’t been updated with new tasks so they were all just bouncing around in my brain, and I didn’t know where to start! I just updated my board and feel like I’m back on the ball again!! It’s crazy that something so simple could be so critical, but I’m intensely lazy and unorganised naturally!

Hope some of that helps lol!

I wish I were organised too.

Like today? I need to get my camera out and take some photos, I’ve yet to check the horses water and they both need their feet cleaning. Isaac needs his nails cutting and so does Amy. I need to work out what is for dinner and do some washing. I’ve got to write some things for the blogs and somewhere in there, I’ve got a physio appointment.

I need organising.

That sounds scarily like my day – other than the physio… oh, and replace horses with a cat who doesn’t like being groomed. >_<
