    Finding My Joy

I recently came across this mini eCourse at Willette Photography, and simply HAD to put it on my to do list. I'm terrible for always staying behind the camera, and never being in any photos myself. After all, I'm the photographer, not the model!

I don't really like the way I look. In fact I can't really remember a time that I did like the way I looked, but I figure, there's enough hate in the world without me hating myself, so I guess I'm trying to gain a little more self esteem and hopefully start feeling better about myself and accept who I am.

It occurred to me that when I'm older, I may want to look back on the photos of my younger years, and I wouldn't have anything to show. Also, god forbid something was to happen to me, I would hate for my boys to grow up not having any photos of their Mamma.

So, I set up my tripod today, and used a bongo drum to get the focus where I wanted it, moved it, and sat in my (tidied!) corner, with the boys' toys pushed out of view, and let rip with my wireless remote!

Out of about 40 images, I had one I liked enough to process.

I seem to be looking quite serious in it... really I wasn't sure if the remote was working as it seems to stall a few seconds at first, lol!

Hehe thanks Jen, I was a bit annoyed as it looked like my wireless remote wasn't working, and then it snapped me like this!

It's a great photo of you my dear and it's what you look like - except not cos you're usually SMILING! It's not easy is it? Pretty impossible to get a natural and relaxed photo when you're taking it yourself. All my first attempts you could see the bloody remote in!

Honestly I was kinda pissed off in this photo as I thought the remote wasn't working, then it took that! LOL
I think I may need to have D or the kids on hand to entertain me, otherwise any smile is going to end up being false! *sigh*
Also, why do you think I cropped the photo! The remote is showing! ;)

Not bad!! SEriously, I struggle with self portraits, they're so difficult to get right

Hmmm, maybe I ought to try this too, hehe.

I need to have someone in the background to chat to I think... otherwise all my shot will be me looking like that, or embarrassed! lol :)

It's a good idea... I just hope I manage to follow through! lol

I can never get a good photo of myself. This is a lovely photo though. I think those photos were you're just doing something naturally always look best as opposed to one where you are posing. You look like someone and I can't place my finger on who it is. I'll come back to you.

Thanks! It's hard to get a photo of yourself, especially if you're on your own at the time - I guess it's a bit like acting, you've just got to pretend that you're talking to someone/heard something funny etc? I'm not so good at that though! lol :)
