What Do You Do When The Kids Are Away?
Friday, July 9, 2010 at 4:29PM
This afternoon for example, Max has been snoozing for most of it, and Dean took Zack with him into Perth so I could get a little peace and Zack could get out of the house (plus he could have his fave spaghetti bolognese at our favourite family pub...) for a while.
I should have been using this time for tidying up, cleaning, making the place spic and span for when they get home.
But no...
Ohhh no.
Not me.
Not lazy arsed lil old me!
No, I chose to spend that time sitting on my arse in front of the computer reading blogs.
Lots of blogs.
And commenting on them.
And trying to think up something to write for a blog post.
You already know though, that I didn't come up with much, because instead of writing something insightful or funny, I'm telling you about what a lazy arse I am.
I really should do better.
(That's not to say I've done *nothing*... I did clean up the mess that Max had left his cereal in all over the floor, table and 3 of our 4 chairs.)
My brother and his family are coming over on Sunday and no doubt Zack will want to show his cousins his bedroom.
The bedroom being upstairs.
Upstairs looking like a bombsite but strewn with clothes instead of dirt and rubble.
The bathroom soooo needing a clean.
The bottom of the shower curtain that I have been meaning to bleach for the last month at least.
The toys all over the house.
The laundry that needs done (we finally have some socks and underwear that's clean today at least!).
The random beakers with old milk that are hidden scattered upstairs.
The box that was full of my art goodies empty, with random brushes and little blocks of watercolour paints dotted around the bedroom.
The rabbit that was just cleaned out but has already pooped a mountain.
The cat who needs fed.
The almost empty cupboard that needs filled with food for us all to, you know... eat?
I could totally say that this has all just happened since Zack started his summer holidays last week, but I would be lying.
So please excuse me while I do a whip round to tidy up as I just got a phonecall saying Dean and Zack are on the bus back from town.
That gives me about 40 minutes to get at least downstairs looking a little more presentable...
*cough*

Lol! I do exactly the same. It doesn't happen very often but I always head straight for the laptop telling myself that I'll just give myself a break for half an hour, no longer, and then I'll go and do all those chores that need doing. Never, ever happens!
OK, I got's a few household hint for you that really should help!
First of all, stop feeding the animals. Immediately, you will notice an absence of poop!
Second of all, when you fill the cupboard this time, tell everyone they're not allowed to eat it because you'll just have to refill it all over again.
Brilliant! No? ;-)
Oh Marilyn... I think we may be kindred spirits!
I loved Yoshi pic the other day..WiBoy such a fan and, at age 10, hs Luigi and Toad cuddlies. Boys love their cuddlies!
I'm gonna try your Sunday snippets with a post I did 2 weks ago (never got the second one done) to see if I can manage it!! xx jazzy
Lol, but being a lazyarse is good, it gives you 'mental me time' and we all know the importance of that. I am soooo missing my bloggy friends and reading their blogs, feel like I am rushing through them as *should* be having quality bonding family time. Still not done up the post for Sunday yet!! Enjoy being a lazyarse, wish I could join you:) Jen
That Krissa is brilliant, she is.
Me? I go to work during the day. Then I put off housework until the husband does it. Of course, impending divorce means I'll have to find a new strategy. Perhaps will consult with Krissa...
I think it was you who was blogging awhile ago about doing one room at a time, I took that literally. I write a list of each room starting from the easiest to clean and finishing with the hardest.
Then I sit down to watch a TV show I like, and when an ad comes on I race around cleaning the first room on my list as mush as I can until the show comes back on. Then I sit and fold washing while I watch. The next ad comes on and I run around cleaning up the second room and so on.
It sounds really stupid but it works for me because I don't get bored of cleaning and it's a little challenge I can do during the ads.
That's so sweet that Dean has taken Zack out for spaghetti bog!
lol - hope you enjoyed it! And that it happens again soon! (In my experience, if you leave stuff that needs tidying long enough, it usually disappears in the background).
Oh, I WISH I could be sneaky and just hang out all afternoon when I'm on my own. But I clean and organise and do 'kid stuff'. Generally drive myself nuts. You know. But I'm getting better at it...
Found you on FlogYoBlogFriday!
There will be time for cleaning after they are grown and out of the house!
Not to go totally all cliche on you BUT a clean house is a sign of wasted life. So there. Ahem.
*a* ahem ahem.
Actually, I think you did the right thing. you had some you time (& let's face it you were able to do those other bits as well so...!)
Thank god I'm not the only one! ;)
Oooh now that sounds interesting! :)
Yay for laptop time! Lets face it, it's the only true time we get to ourselves innit?
Ahhhh so *that's* how you do it?? I've been doing it all wrong... ;)
I think we might be! hehe :)
No pressure with the Sunday Snippets, I've found that it's making me want to post more in general, which is a good thing! ;)
And *that* is exactly why I do it! hehe :)
Just be a lazy arse while you're on hols... it's kinda the point! We'll all be here when you get back! x
I actually found that I took care of the housework really easily once my ex was finally out of the picture, cause I knew it was solely down to me!
Funnily enough, since meeting Dean I have become a bit lazy with the housework again... LOL!
That sounds like a plan tbh... I may try it today! Although today will be a panicked cleaning mode day (once I've actually got off the laptop and showered) as my brother, sil and their kids are coming to visit tomorrow... >_<
In my case it seems to be multiplying! >_<
Hehe and typically I wish I was more like you! I guess there's a happy medium we've yet to find... the elusive "balance" you hear everyone talking about eh? ;)
