A photo I’m actually happy with!

by Marylin on February 21, 2010

This doesn’t happen very often, that I take a photo and edit it to the point I actually *like* it!

Zack rarely sits still enough for me to take any photos. The only way I managed this was by putting on Spongebob Squarepants and sitting him in front of the living room window for some decent light.

I can’t believe this little guy will be going to school in just 6 months. SIX MONTHS! He is such a handful, but a kind-hearted little guy. I wouldn’t change him for the world!

Just in case anyone wants to know the details: taken with my 50mm at f2.8, 1/125sec SS and 200 ISO.

I opened it up in Lightroom, bumped up the exposure by +1.75, and contrast by making an S-curve in curves, cropped it and then took it over to PS to sharpen it for web and resize it.

Finally starting to see the light with Lightroom (pardon the pun!) and I’ll definitely be looking into more tutorials etc on it soon!

Hope you all had a great weekend. :)

Great shot – Zack looks SO much more grown up than Paul… scary they will be at school in August (maybe…. not sure yet….stil dithering with the idea of Home Ed).

I never fell in love with Lightroom, tried it, but I didn’t like the way it catalogued everything in some secret way it refused to share with me – a bit like a MAC!

I didn’t like LR the first time I d/loaded it, but I do this time! It does take some time to get used to. I still use Adobe Bridge to import my photos though. There’s nothing wrong with Mac’s btw! :P

Good luck with the home-schooling – I know I’m not brave enough to try it! I’m looking forward to Zack being AT SCHOOL all day so Max and I get some peace. He’s so much more vocal when his big bro isn’t around.

I’m loving it too!

The background is simply amazing and his expression is SO much the “watching-TV-mesmerized-expression”, it’s perfect. Great shot!
I only feel there may be a little bit too much white light on his face, but don’t ask me how to fix it. ;)

But otherwise, congrats and give us moooooore! :D

Yeah, I’m still working on getting my exposures right. It was under exposed and I lightened it a little too much I think!
The background is a Thomas the Tank tent that he got for his birthday last year. Usually it’s kept upstairs but every so often it creeps back down to the living room! ;)

Thanks Tina!
I’ve learned so much through the internet (especially Clickin Moms, hence having their badge on my sidebar!). I tried a couple of college courses but found that I could learn what they were teaching and *so* much more online. There’s a lot of info out there to learn photography! :)

Great photo. Spongebob really works wonders when you need a still model:)

The colors in the photo really pop! I’m such a novice, myself. I don’t even own photoshop.

Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha

Thanks! That window is the only one I get decent light from… trying to get the kids there isn’t easy unless they’r glued to the tv! ;)
